Let me first off say I love Domainer’s Magazine..

I’m no web designer, though, but I do know it’s wise to keep image files fairly light to speed page load times.

I just hit their site, and check out the size of this image on their homepage.. friggin 892K…almost 1MB..oye..

I feel sorry for all those poor souls on 28.8 modems out there…

I always enjoy hearing great business quotes and the poinpoint accuracy they deliver in just a few short sentences. I ran across these two browsing through Fortune magazine recently, and thought I’d share here..

The first was from an extensive article about Exxon, and the money-making machine that they are. The quote was:

“Exxon Mobil is not a fun place to work”, says one industry analyst. “They’re not in the fun business. They’re in the profit business.”

i-love-it. A true ‘take no s*’ business quote. Reminds me of a sign my brother used to hang in his flooring supply business saying “No Refunds - We Ain’t Sears’. Classic.

The second came from Brad Anderson, CEO of Best Buy, in a Q&A session:

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who aspires to be an entrepreneur? –Paul Zdechlik, Edina, Minn.

Find an unmet customer need and make it your passion to profitably satisfy it.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a more succinct way to describe how to be your own boss…

so, what’s your favorite business quote?

for anyone interested (doubtful I’ll be able to buy it), rubberneck.com is going up for auction today at snapnames. If you toss it into your account today, you should be able to access the live auction, which’ll allow you to bid on it, or - in my case - sit back and watch as a spectator.. They’ll close the door today for entrants into the auction, so hurry up - the auction will complete in 3 days.. My guess for final sale price? $35K..

Adam Viener has a great domaining post over at revenews.com, where he breaks down an IM conversation he’s having during the middle of a live domain auction. It’s a very cool glimpse into what goes through a domainers head as we approach/research/and bid on domain names. The IM dialog also captures the - at times - frenetic bidding decisions that are made in the trenches..

I cover this domaining angle with a few of my well established websites, but was asleep at the wheel on this instance..

I had the chance to register domainergazette.com when I built this site (without the ’s’). Looks like someone already scooped it up when they read this blog.

Funny though, as this site is about domaining, and someone else was savvy enough to realize I failed to register this variation.

eh, live and learn. It’s not like this blog is gonna start paying my mortgage someday…

here’s a CPA company that blindly emailed me in regards to establishing a partnership deal..

I love the fact that, instead of schmoozing me to reply and go over possible deals, they immediately put me to work filling out this long checklist of site statistics, as if I have something to prove to them.

I guess beggars can be choosers.
