I’m still scratching my head on this one..

Perusing the Pre-Release list at Namejet this morning, I couldn’t help but notice this winner, stuck directly below the active bid names..(and no, this name had no bids)

now, I do normally see names in this section preceded by a number or two, but twenty zero’s? Then followed by another twenty zero’s? To grab this screenshot, I had to hover of the name to view the entire string…

then to add fuel to the fire, the poor sap mis-spells ‘community’

for some reason, I see this chap falling asleep on their keyboard, mid-registration, nose resting on the number zero, them waking up, hastily typing the name they want, pausing, sleeping, nose on zero again, boss yelling at them for sleeping, then hitting register.

but that’s just me.

Domain Name Dollar Store better pick this one up before someone else does…

When I stumble across a domain name I’d like to acquire, I tend to email the owners - to check and see if it might be for sale (obviously).. Oftentimes lately, though, I simply call ‘em up. Grab their ear for a moment and determine whether they wanna sell or not. It seems to speed the process up..

But sometimes, Lordy, you can get caught with a “talker”.. and other times, you can get caught on twilight zone calls, where you doubly laugh and scratch your head at the same time..

Let me explain.. I’ll take you into a conversation I had recently..

the domains and peeps names have been altered to protect the innocent.

Call #1
Re: Geo Domain Name

Them: Hello?

Me: Hey, could I speak to Bo Wellen?

Them: Speaking

Me: Hey Bo, my name’s Peter Askew, I was calling in regards to a domain name you’re listed as admin for. I was interested in building a city portal, and rather than buying my own name from scratch, I thought I’d at least drop you a line to see if you might be interested in selling yours..

Them: You mean my domain, *name*?

Me: You got it

Them: Now hang on, people actually wanna buy these?

Me: Well, I’m not sure about ‘everyone’, but I kinda like the name, so I thought I at least give you a jingle

Them: Well, I guess, if the price was right, I could consider it..

Me: Sounds good, did you have a price in your head that you might like to achieve?

Them: I think $500 might work

Me(excited and biting my lip cause it’s a good name): mmmmkay.. it’s a little more than I was looking to pay, but I think I can make that work..how do you prefer payment?

Them: well, I can take your credit card, and make that charge each time..

Me: Each time?

Them: Sure, $500 a month

Me: Hmpf.. I think I’m mistaken, I thought you meant $500 to buy it..

Them: Oh heck no.. I was thinking $500 a month

Me: ok.. and how many months?

Them: forever

Me: Thanks for your time..

[hang up]

(CTOPD is our hobby project … read more about it here)

we’re headed into an election year, so what better time to visit UncleSam.com..

and per wikipedia:

He is often depicted as a serious elderly white man with white hair and a goatee, with an obvious resemblance to Presidents Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln[citation needed], and dressed in clothing that recalls the design elements of the flag of the United States—for example, typically a top hat with red and white stripes and white stars on a blue band, and red and white striped trousers.

I think I like the new Uncle Sam better…

props to Ryan MacDonald for mentioning this one to me..
