As domainer’s, we all start with a single domain..

Mine? good ole PlanetBnB.com. I didn’t even realize I was a domainer back then. No, it ain’t pretty, I was trying to teach myself HTML so I could build a website. To do that, I needed a domain name.

Here are the stats:
Registrar: GoDaddy
When: 2004
Registration Length: 1 year (later extended to 10 years)
Parked or Developed?: Developed, it’s a bed and breakfast directory.
Still Own it? Yup
Highest Offer to Date?: No serious offers yet. Don’t think I ever wanna sell it though.
Interesting Tidbit: I registered the domain name in my office, which - at the time - was a closet in my 1BR apartment.

so … what was your first domain name? what are the stats? (ie. Registrar, When, Reg Length, Parked/Developed?, Still Own?, Highest Offer? Interesting Tidbit..)

My first domain names were pink.com and spot.net.

I registered them back in the days when you had to go thru network solutions.

They were stolen from me by the people who own them now, due to network solutions incompetance.

I didn’t register another domain name for 10 years after that… I still hate network solutions, too.

My first domain name was monehp.com, which I used for my personal Web site and email from when I registered it on August 12, 1996, and stopped using for myself around 2001. I still own the name, and since there’s not much demand for the word “phenom” spelled backwards, I am parking it now and have no current plans for it.

My first domain was diversity101.net back in 1999. I was working as a technical recruiter and thought I would build a recruiting site for diversity candidates (a profitable niche). I no longer have that name, but I have 100’s of other/better domains now.

    Domain: CyberTeam.com
Registrar: Originally Networksolutions, in between it was with other registrars and now is with Fabulous
    When: 1995
    Registration Length: 1 year
Parked or Developed?: Was developed, now parked. There’s still a project planned under this name one day.
    Still Own it? Yup
Highest Offer to Date?: $2,000. I tried to sell it with the Corporate Identity that goes along with it instead.
Interesting Tidbit: Most of my registrations back then were non-generics. And most names I do not own any more :(

My first commercial one was DiceTown.com (although I got wilsdon.co.uk in 2000)
    Registrar: Originally Tucows
    When: 2001
    Registration Length: 1 year
Parked or Developed?: Was developed as a personal site now 404′ed (reminds me to park this!).
    Still Own it? Yup
Highest Offer to Date?: Never tried to sell it or had an offer
    Interesting Tidbit:

First domain I ever owned was SociologyProject.com - when I was at university we had to do a questionnaire as part of our final diploma. Most students used to run round university to get responses - usually 10 max.

I put my form on the internet, promoted it and got about 400 replies! Fairly cutting edge at the time and got me 93%. I let it expire though after the project as my professors were worried about the ethical implications of personally owning a domain that an educational establishment might need :)

My first domain was “eschaton.net” in around 1994. Back in the days when .com domains were free of charge and you could have as many as you wanted.

I only went with a .net as they were pretty rare back then and it looked cooler. No-one talked about selling domains back then.

Interesting post, thanks. I think my first was AmericanWebWorks.com, which I turned into a web development service. I still own it and maintain some minimal info on it but I don’t do professional web design anymore, at least not for others. I registered several good domains back in 1997 and 98 that I planned to develop into online services eventually, but if I didn’t get around to developing the service then I’d let the domain expire, as I had not yet realized the inherent value of domain names.

WOW you got me thinking because we let our very first domian name go when we changed our company name. This was a long time ago however we have been accumilating domian names for 11+ years and hold around 3000 of them today.

Thank you for reminding us and for sharing your first purchase it brings back some memories.

    Logic.
